Consultant General Surgery

Prof. Pignata brings more than 30 years of experience in all fields of General Surgery and more than 15 years as Head of Department in Italy. From beginning he focused his work on the development of new technologies becoming one of the pioneers of laparoscopic surgery in Italy. Precisely for this prof. Pignata wanted to focus his attention on the reduction of surgical trauma to the abdominal wall by developing and increasing the approach with Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS).
With his high experience in advanced mini-invasive surgery he can perform all surgery for colon, rectum, stomach, kidney and urinary tract, adrenal gland, spleen, pancreas, biliary tract, liver, thyroid, abdominal wall defect (hernia / incisional hernias).
This has allowed an ever better treatment given to the patient with a net reduction of hospitalization, pain, bleeding, with an earlier return to daily activities.

Prof. Giusto Pignata was graduated in 1983 in Medicine at the University of Padua. Receiving his specialization in urology (Padua University) and general surgery (Verona University), [he performed first cholecystectomy performed 1988, first laparoscopic colectomy in 1992, first thoracoscopic anatomical lung resection in 1997, first total esophagectomy with three field lymphoadenectomy in 1999, first total gastrectomy with extended lymphadenectomy in 2001, first anatomical right hepatectomy in 2002, first laparoscopic D.C.P. (duodenum-
pancreatectomy in 2003]. He has performed more than 8000 major surgery of which over 4000 with minimally invasive procedures.
He was invited to perform live operations in major Congresses and in Italian and European hospitals in the years he became one of the surgeons laparoscopists reference in training young surgeons. He’s also opinion leader for new technology of several multinational companies.
Due to his experience in Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery, Springer (publisher most important in the world to scientific interest) charged him to write a book, which was published in June 2014, titled: "Single-Access Laparoscopic Surgery: current applications and controversies".
Prof. Pignata performs no patient selection, all patients are candidates for minimally invasive surgery (also in case of multiple previous surgeries). The only limitations to laparoscopic surgery are represented by issues related to general anesthesia.
He has no conversion to laparotomy minor surgery (appendectomy, cholecystectomy, wall defects, surgery of the joint gastro-oesophageal, gynecological), while for major surgery the conversion rate is 2%, with complication rates of around 4 %.
